Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one after another. - Walter Elliott
When I first began my fitness journey in 2011 my primary goal was to improve my quality of life. After living in Austin for a year, I found myself alone; on the other side of a failed relationship and in a city where I felt no one really knew me. I wanted to make a change and needed something to distract me. Jogging became a hobby and therapeutic outlet; a mind-numbing way for me to tune out the rest of the world and just do something for myself. Losing weight was an added perk, but it was not something I worried too much about. Now, I have surrounded myself with the best people; they love, challenge, support, push and guide me. I am happy to call Austin home.
Over the past few years, I have completely transformed and evolved. I have a new body, an improved mindset, and an amazingly promising new career that I love. Love is probably an understatement. Although this sounds really fantastic (it is!!!!!!!), I became hungry for more. I craved a challenge, something to work towards and commit myself to completely.
Spending time with my Plantbuilt family as they competed in the Naturally Fit Super Show in July 2013 helped me find my answer. This group of 15 vegan athletes dominated the stage in Austin, TX at the drug and steroid-free competition. The team had a united front; dominating the stage and proving to the world that beautiful muscles can be built and maintained through a compassionate, plant-based vegan lifestyle. Everyone arrived knowing only a few other people - mainly from the internet - but everyone left feeling a strong bond with each other.
In Summer 2014, I will compete in a figure/bikini competition. It has been decided. I have committed. Over the past month, I have made several changes to my nutrition and training schedule and will update more frequently about this new goal. I hope to become an official member of the Plantbuilt family and stand together with them next year on stage. I will continue to work hard toward this goal every day; adjusting my training and diet. I am taking back the power and building the body that I want, no matter what cards I have been previously dealt. This is up to me and I am making it happen.
