Rainbow Salad
On Saturday, I kicked off my own official Raw Food Challenge. For the month of September, I am going to be eating only raw fruits and vegetables. This will include juices, smoothies, cold soups and any other raw creations I can stumble upon or create myself. I will not be using any seasonings or condiments, but will still be supplementing with plant-based protein powder. I will truly be tasting each morsel of food in its most natural state.
The challenge has been going very well. I have yet to venture into any new territory, mainly sticking to green juice and salads. Honestly, I am not sure how much of a challenge this actually is. For the past few months, my diet had probably been about 90%+ raw each day anyhow. After my strength training workout this evening, I will have a post workout shake consisting of mainly fruit. I always look forward to this meal most all week!

I started reading The 80/10/10 Diet, a book by Dr. Douglas N. Graham, in hope of finding some inspiration or direction beginning this challenge. I began reading with a very open mind, as I am hoping to learn more about this lifestyle, and do not plan to eat 80/10/10 (at this point, at least). Dr. Graham suggests that to achieve optimal health, 80% of your calories should come from carbohydrates, 10% of your calories from protein and 10% of your calories from fat. I am looking forward to reading more of this and am especially curious about the meal plans, testimonials, and success of losing body fat while eating this way.
